Our story

Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work.

What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. Our founder, Sarah, is a dedicated movement educator, studio owner, and E-RYT 500 YACEP (Yoga Alliance) yoga teacher. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a foundation in kinesiology and sport & health psychology, and went on to work as a kinesiologist in the Edmonton area, supporting a wide range of clients—from athletes and youth to individuals with limited mobility and those navigating the demands of corporate life.

Sarah has spent years cultivating a welcoming, community-driven space rooted in mindful movement, education, and connection. Her teaching blends science-backed understanding with intuitive, thoughtfully curated class experiences designed to meet people where they are. In addition to her extensive yoga training and experience, Sarah is certified to teach mat pilates, barre, meditation, indoor cycling, and self-myofascial release.

Known for her trauma-informed approach, Sarah is passionate about helping individuals reconnect with their bodies, build confidence in how they move, and feel supported both on & off the mat. Her work is grounded in the belief that when people feel safe in their bodies, they’re better equipped to live fuller, healthier, and more empowered lives.

We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead. What sets us apart isn’t just our process—it’s the intention behind it. We take time to understand, explore, and create with purpose at every turn.

Driven by passion

Through a diverse range of classes and experiences, we create opportunities for you to reconnect with your body, quiet your mind, and rediscover just how good it can feel to move and live with intention.

Our Mission | To provide a space for individuals to enhance their physical, mental, emotional, and social health—both on & off the mat.
Our Vision | To foster an inclusive, embodied culture of wellness—regardless of age, gender, or ability.

At the heart of Ascend are our values of community, connection, & consciousness. These guide everything we offer—from classes and workshops to educational experiences that invite deeper exploration of the body and mind. Our goal is to support a heightened sense of awareness so you feel empowered and confident making choices that truly align with your well-being.

As we continue to grow, Ascend Online allows us to extend this experience beyond our physical space. Through high-quality, on-demand and live classes, we’re able to support you wherever you are—bringing the same intentional movement, education, and sense of connection into your home and daily routine. It’s an opportunity to stay consistent, feel supported, and remain connected to the Ascend community no matter your schedule or location.

We’re honoured to be recognized for our impact and growth, including:
“New Business of the Year” – 2024 Hinton & District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards
“Business of the Year” – 2025 Hinton & District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards

“If you’re looking for a path to more mobility, self-care, and self-love, this is your place and these are your people. Ascend Movement Studio is so much more than classes. It’s a community that is both challenging and empowering each of us to show up for ourselves and put in the work. Meet yourself where you’re at and love yourself as you are. Sarah, you are incredible. Your teaching style is beyond amazing and I’m so glad I joined this phenomenal community.”
